Rapid inflation in Turkey leads to increased housing disputes and evictions

Landlord-tenant litigation has become the largest case in the Turkish judicial system. About 20% of all cases are related to housing conflicts.

Inflation peaked at 54.4% in February 2022. Growth is expected to continue in the coming months.

Moreover, rental rates last year increased by an average of 69% across the country and by 85% in Istanbul.

Many residents have experienced difficulties with contract payments because homeowners want to keep raising rates. This situation leads to many evictions and housing conflicts.

Legally, the increase in rental rates is limited to 22.6%, but homeowners use intimidation and other questionable business methods.
