Alanya Municipality will start the second phase of the reconstruction of Atatürk Street in the city centre on 2 November. The work will cover the section from the Atatürk Monument to the district office of the Highways Directorate (Karayolları). The order of works was agreed on 14 October at a meeting chaired by Mayor Osman Tarık Özçelik with ASAT, Antalya’s water and sewerage authority, the gas company ENERYA, the power distribution company CK Akdeniz Elektrik and the telecom operators Türk Telekom, Turkcell, Vodafone and FibimNet.
Under the road, the water mains, sewers, storm drains, power lines and street lighting, gas pipes and fibre-optic cables will all be replaced. Each utility will work on its own stretch in an agreed sequence, and the municipality will lay hot asphalt and new pavements only once all underground work is finished. “Our goal is to make sure that the work we do today does not have to be dug up again tomorrow,” the mayor said. According to him, the project is designed to meet the city’s needs for the next 50 years. The first phase, up to the Atatürk Monument, ran from November 2025 to May 2026, when the water mains, sewers, power lines, gas network and road surface were renewed. The completion date for the second phase and the traffic diversion plan have not yet been announced.
For the next few months, residents and flat owners along the street will have to get used to detours. In return, as the municipality promises, the road will not be opened up again for a new pipe or cable once the work is done. Every new building handed over by a developer in Turkey is connected to the city networks, and their condition decides whether there will be water and power cuts in summer. If you are looking for a home among completed projects or in the apartment catalogue, it is worth asking which nearby streets the city has already renewed and where work is still to come.
