Alanya on the cruise map: a 264-metre liner calls at the port for the fourth time this season

On the morning of 11 August the Marella Discovery came alongside in Alanya — a 264-metre ship under the flag of Malta, operated under the Marella Cruises brand of the TUI group. It was her fourth visit to the city this season: earlier calls came on 21 April, 2 June and 23 June. Alanya sits on the seven-night Ancient Icons itinerary alongside Limassol, Rhodes, Crete, Marmaris and Bodrum.

Hundreds of guests come ashore for a single day and head for the city's landmarks: the castle, the Red Tower (Kızıl Kule), the medieval shipyard and Cleopatra Beach. Shops, cafés and excursion operators see a noticeable lift in takings on such days. The national picture is strong: according to the Maritime Directorate of Turkey's Ministry of Transport, the country's ports received 488 cruise ships and 756,455 passengers between January and June 2026 — the best first half in sixteen years.

Over the same six months the port of Alanya handled five ships and 6,734 passengers, against 6,646 a year earlier. The figures are more modest than in neighbouring Antalya, but something else matters more: the city has secured its place on international cruise lines and receives visitors beyond the peak beach season. For the property market this is a steady, positive backdrop — a recognised destination, year-round city life and reliable rental demand. Anyone buying a home in Alanya should watch signals like these: they say as much about the city's development as sales figures do.
