The removal of the cap on property rent increases provides landlords with the potential to increase their income. The legislation strictly regulates that landlords cannot increase rents above the 12-month inflation index.
According to the Turkish Statistics Institute (TÜIK), the average annual inflation rate was 65.07%, which sets the maximum possible limit for rent increases. It is important to note that this does not mean a mandatory increase in rents to the inflation rate; landlords can price less than this index.
Nevertheless, the Central Bank's latest rate meeting warned that rental inflation is expected to be high in the near future.
