Construction of the Antalya–Alanya motorway has officially begun

Turkey’s Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, has officially announced the start of active construction work on the motorway project, which will link two key Mediterranean tourist destinations: Antalya and Alanya.

According to the minister, the long-awaited project has finally entered the implementation phase. The new 122-kilometre route (comprising 84 km of main motorway and 38 km of connecting roads) will be a real game-changer for the region. It will start at the Serik junction, pass through Manavgat and Konaklı, and end at the western junction of Alanya. Engineers have planned seven modern junctions, five tunnels with a total length of 4,365 metres, sixteen viaducts (5,966 metres) and four service centres. The design speed is 140 km/h.

Currently, the journey between the cities takes an average of 2.5 hours, and at the height of the season can sometimes stretch to four hours. The new road will reduce this time to just 36 minutes. Uraloğlu noted that the project will not only relieve congestion on existing motorways but also improve safety and save fuel and time for millions of tourists and local residents. “This is a modern example of engineering excellence that will link the orange-hued port of Antalya with the banana plantations of Alanya,” the minister emphasised.

Construction is being carried out under a public-private partnership. The foundation stone was laid in July 2025 in Manavgat, with the Minister of Culture and Tourism in attendance. In the autumn of the same year, the project’s financial closure, amounting to around €1.7 billion, was successfully completed in Ankara. Contractors are now on site, and work is in full swing.

Experts are confident that the new motorway will provide a powerful boost to the development of tourism, trade and the economy across Turkey’s entire Mediterranean region. Local authorities and residents are eagerly awaiting the completion of construction, which is scheduled for the coming years.
