Alanya upgrades its roads: the municipality launches a large-scale asphalting programme

The Alanya municipality has rolled out a large-scale road renewal programme across several districts of the city at once. According to Mayor Osman Tarık Özçelik, the authorities have prepared a serious road-building and asphalting programme for the summer of 2026. The works cover both central avenues and streets in outlying neighbourhoods.

One notable stretch is Atatürk Avenue. New pavement and sidewalks running 6 kilometres were laid here in 90 days instead of the planned 240 — almost four months ahead of schedule. On 1 July, works began in Kestel on İsa Küçülmez Street and in Mahmutlar on Atatürk Avenue: they have been split into three stages and are expected to be finished in 45 days without closing traffic. In the Payallar neighbourhood, 450 metres of road were resurfaced with hot asphalt.

The programme has been backed with equipment: over the past two years the municipal services have received 24 vehicles and pieces of machinery, with another six on order. The results and plans were discussed at the city council meeting on 8 July. A stronger road network directly affects quality of life and housing prices: districts with new surfaces — Mahmutlar, Kestel and Oba — are becoming more convenient for residents and more attractive to property buyers.
