In the Turkish resort town of Alanya, in the Oba district, an ambitious project to renovate the tourist infrastructure has been launched. In place of the old villas belonging to the Green Garden Resort & SPA complex, it is planned to build a modern five-star hotel. This decision has caused much discussion among local residents and industry experts, as it is a radical transformation of a popular neighbourhood.
The project is being realised by Sadullahoğlu Turizm İnşaat Dayanıklı Tüketim Malları Pazarlama San. ve Tic. A.Ş. The land plot of about 19 thousand square metres will turn into a luxury hotel complex with 249 rooms for 498 guests. The total investment is estimated at 2.573 billion Turkish Liras, which emphasises the scale of the plan. According to the company, the new hotel will become the flagship of local tourism, offering the highest level of service, spa centres, restaurants and recreational areas.
Demolition work on the villas has already begun, and is being carefully monitored for environmental safety. The construction promises to create 50 temporary jobs during the construction phase and up to 300 permanent jobs after opening. This will not only boost the region's economy but also attract more tourists from Europe and the Middle East, where demand for premium holidays is growing. However, critics point out that the demolition of old buildings could change the usual look of Oba, making it more commercialised.
Overall, the project reflects global trends in tourism: from old villas to modern complexes capable of competing with the world's leading resorts. If everything goes according to plan, Alanya will strengthen its position as one of the top destinations in the Mediterranean.
