Renting property in Turkey will become even safer

In Turkey, some homeowners avoid renting out their homes because of the hassle involved, including domestic problems.

In theory, the law protects tenants, as renting is considered official and the flat becomes their personal space.

However, this has led to a situation where owners have been forced to reduce the value of flats by selling them 'on the basis of photographs', as personal inspections become impossible.

Turkish lawyers have clarified the rights of owners and here are the key points:

  • The owner has the right to inspect his property after giving notice to the tenants.
  • In the case of viewings for potential buyers, the owner can organise such viewings twice a week by agreeing specific days and times with the tenants.

On these agreed days and times, tenants are obliged to allow prospective buyers to view the property. Failure to do so is an offence and may result in legal consequences, including criminal liability.
