According to analyses by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat), 1,272 residential properties were purchased by foreigners in Turkey in April this year, a decrease of 50.3 percent compared to April 2008, when 2,557 properties were sold. The share of sales to foreign buyers in the total volume of registered transactions was 1.7 per cent.
Russian citizens bought 293 residential properties in April, making them the leaders among foreign buyers. In second place were Iranians, who bought 117 properties. Ukrainians came in third place with 91 purchases. Compared to April 20-23, when 817 transactions were concluded with the participation of Russians, the number of purchases has almost tripled.
