Russians no longer lead in the number of residence permits granted in Turkey

The Turkish Republic's Migration Directorate has reported on foreign residents for 2023. Last year saw a reduction in residence permit holders from 1.35 million to 1.11 million. With 250,000 foreign nationals leaving the country, there was a change in the national composition of expatriates: Turkmenistan led in 2023 with 109,039 individuals, while Russia dropped to second place with 100,847 individuals. This decline is linked to Turkey's new policy of restricting residence permits in popular tourist areas and tightening the rules for obtaining residence permits through property purchases.
