Tourism spending in Turkey in the first quarter of 2022 amounted to $680 million

According to new information from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) dated July 29, 2022, Domestic tourism spending in Turkey rose by 100.4% between January and March 2022 compared to the same period in 2021. These data showed that expenditures reached 12.1 billion Turkish liras (about $680 million).

How many people have traveled to Turkey?

According to TurkStat, in the first quarter of 2022, 7.3 million people traveled across Turkey to different cities and regions. The average number of days per traveler was 7.7 days, while the total number of nights spent in Turkish hotels and houses in the first quarter of the year was 67.5 million.

How much and what do tourists spend in Turkey?

The average holiday expenses in Turkey reached 1,383 Turkish liras. Of these, 94.5% were personal expenses totaling 11.5 billion Turkish liras. The remaining 5.5% was spent on package tours, which, according to the data, amounted to 665.6 million Turkish liras.

Transportation costs averaged 33.7% of the total cost of each trip in Turkey. Food and beverage expenses accounted for approximately 28.8%, while living expenses averaged 11.1%. Compared to last year, average expenses grew by 125.4% for transport, by 109.8% for food and beverages, and by 132.9% for accommodation, and people in Turkey began to relax again.

Why do people travel to Turkey?

The reasons for traveling in Turkey can be divided into several categories. 65.1% traveled with relatives, 18.5% of people traveled to get some rest, and finally, 6.3% of people arrived in the country for business purposes. Living in their own homes or holiday homes was the most popular type of housing.
