A new phase of development has begun in sunny Alanya, the pearl of the Turkish Mediterranean. Mayor Osman Tarık Özçelik has presented a plan that promises to make the resort attractive not only in summer, but also in other seasons. These are not just words - a special presentation at the Kaila Beach Hotel brought together representatives of the authorities, tour operators and the public to discuss the calendar of events for the coming year.
The idea is simple but revolutionary for Turkey: fill each month with colourful events, from sports competitions to cultural festivals. Gastronomic fairs and wellness programmes in winter, art exhibitions in spring, beach volleyball tournaments in summer and music concerts in autumn. For example, a free performance by the famous Goran Bregovic is scheduled in May and a tropical fruit festival in October. All this is being integrated into tour operators' packages so that tourists book trips in advance, rather than spontaneously.
Ozcelik emphasises: "We are not destroying the old, but developing it. Alanya will become a brand where tourism is all year round." Partners, from the Ministry of Culture to local associations, will help realise the vision. An application has already been submitted for a FIVB beach volleyball centre of excellence, and events like the jazz festival will be sponsored.
The economic impact is clear: increased hotel occupancy in the low season, an influx of property investment, and a strengthening of local businesses. The city is investing in infrastructure, from new sports arenas to environmental projects. This is a step towards sustainable development, where nature and culture are in harmony.
For residents and visitors to Alanya, 2026 promises to be a busy year. If the plan works, the resort will reach a new level, attracting not only beach holidaymakers but also lovers of active holidays. Follow the updates - perhaps this is a model for other regions of Turkey.
